History
This series boasts an obverse design similar to that on the Classic Head half cents and large cents made during this period. Since it was the policy of the United States to use the same design on all its major coins, this design was employed on all denominations from the half dime to the half dollar.
In 1828 new mint equipment was used to make the small date 1928 dimes and subsequent issues. Unlike earlier coinage, these have beaded borders and a uniform diameter.
Memo
Coins of this series are often collected by die varieties, since each of the dies used was manufactured individually by hand.
