Australia's Precious Metal Coins
Large Bullion Investor Coins
Australia's Large Bullion Coin series (kilo, 10 oz and 2 oz coins) is uniquely appealing because it contains the world's largest bullion coins.
Bullion Collector Coins
Beyond their superb minting quality and brilliant designs, the greatest attractions of these immensely popular coins (denominations of 1 oz and less) are their low premiums and potential for numismatic appreciation over time. This numismatic potential is achieved by making annual design changes, pre-announcing strictly limited annual mintage's, and incorporating extensive proof-like frosting in the coins' central designs.
The Australian Kookaburra Silver Bullion Collector Coins
The Australian Kookaburra is the only major, legal tender, pure silver coin to change its design yearly. The 1997 coin's design depicts two kookaburras sitting on a branch, and is the eighth design in the series. Only 300,000 of these coins are produced annually for sale worldwide compared with the millions of its competitors.
The Australian Nugget Gold Bullion Collector Coins
The Australian Kangaroo Nugget bullion coin is the only major, legal tender, pure gold coin to change its design each year and to limit its mintage's annually. As such it is the only legal tender gold bullion coin which offers investors the potential for numismatic appreciation over time, in addition to an investment in the precious metal itself.
The 1997 Nugget features a classic depiction of a bounding kangaroo and is the eighth design in the internationally acclaimed and remarkably successful Kangaroo series. In 1997, just 350,000 1 oz coins, 100,000 1/2 oz coins, 150,000 1/4 oz coins, 200,000 1/10 oz coins and 200,000 1/20 oz coins will be produced.
The Australian Koala Platinum Bullion Collector Coins
The Australian Koala is the only legal tender, pure platinum bullion coin to carry a different design each year. It is also the only platinum bullion coin with a pre-announced, limited mintage. In 1997, only 100,000 1oz coins, 5,000 1/2 oz coins, 20,000 1/4 oz coins, 20,000 1/10 oz coins and 20,000 1/20 oz coins will be produced. The 1997 design features two cuddling koalas.
Platinum's importance to everyday life is increasing each year, yet only about 140 tons of newly mined platinum reaches Western markets in a typical year, which makes it 17 times rarer than gold and 120 times rarer than silver. Due to its critical role in pollution control, demand for platinum by motor vehicle manufacturers accounted for over 38.5% of platinum mined during 1995.
Platinum is also used extensively in controlling pollution created by factories, dry cleaners and lawnmowers and one in five consumer goods contains platinum or uses it in the production process. Fifty-three tons of platinum are used each year to make jewelry and demand is growing; Japan alone accounts for over 90 percent of this and the potential in the rest of the world is unlimited.
