Niue
50th Anniversary of Peanuts (Comic Strip) Coin
The year 2000 marks the 50th anniversary of
the appearance of the first PEANUTS™
comic strip, and the Government of
Niue is celebrating with the production of two charming commemorative
coins.
Since October 2nd 1950, when the first
cartoon by Charles M. Schulz appeared in 7 U.S. daily newspapers, PEANUTS™
has become the most syndicated comic strip in history, and is translated
into 21 languages, reaching more than 355 million readers.
The enduring success of PEANUTS™
lies with a
cast of characters that almost everyone can related to, and its
universally appealing themes of friendship, childhood, unrequited love,
angst and the personas of a lovable beagle, Snoopy. Today, it is an
icon of popular culture.
Who could resist that lovable
"Loser" Charlie Brown and his gang! SNOOPY, WOODSTOCK, CHARLIE
BROWN, LUCY, LINUS, and SCHROEDER.

2001 Niue Flying Ace And
The Red Baron
Due to
the overwhelming popularity of the first PEANUTS™ coin issued, the Pobjoy Mint has created
a new PEANUTS themed coin. The new currency features Snoopy as the Flying Ace from
the Charles M. Schulz strip.
