2003 British Virgin Islands Man In Flight
Coin

It was on a cool December morning at the
sands of Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, when Orville and
Wilbur Wright struggled with their flimsy machine, vibrating on it’s
launch ramp as it’s engine rumbled noisily. It was at 10.35am that the
twelve second, 120 foot journey took place and made its place in history.
Since this date aviation has made remarkable progress and now aeroplanes
carry millions of people around the world and we can even fly to the moon
and back! To celebrate such an astonishing achievement the Isle of Man,
British Virgin Islands and Gibraltar Governments have released stunning
coin issues which no coin collector or aircraft lover should miss! The
stunning coin from the British Virgin Islands depicts four aircraft which
span the 100 year period. The earliest is the Wright Flyer the first
piloted flight. The second is the Spirit of St. Louis a Ryan monoplane
that completed the first transatlantic flight. The next key event was
Apollo II, the first manned flight to the moon. The final aircraft was
Concorde, the world’s first supersonic aircraft.
